Sublime Bikes

After five months of walking through the American West on a pristine wilderness trail, I felt as though I were living in an Albert Bierstadt painting: vast skies, towering mountains, and crisp alpine lakes. Returning home to East London was a shock to the system—filthy streets littered with discarded Lime bikes, chaos replacing awe.

The Sublime art movement sought to overwhelm viewers with a sense of reverence and astonishment at the power of nature.

In this project using AI & PS, I subtly scatter those ubiquitous Lime bikes across sweeping landscapes. How did they end up all the way here? Will the elk hear the same hacked lime bike sound I hear from my bedroom window? Did some drunk kids get lost on their way back from Pub on the Park? A playful yet pointed commentary, Sublimebikes explores our relationship with nature, convenience, and carelessness—a clash between the awe-inspiring and the absurd.
